Blood Star

Location:

Rialto Beach, Olympic National Park, Washington

Notes: Tide pool life has adapted to several zones corresponding to length of exposure during low tides. This Blood Star was one of the species I had hoped to see but was not counting on because it prefers to live further out, exposing itself only during lower tides. I found it more than one and a half miles from the Rialto Beach parking lot; about a dozen Blood Stars were inhabiting the area.
