The Last Thing You'll Ever See

Location:

Fraser Meadow, Golden Gate Canyon State Park, Colorado

Notes: Crab Spiders like this one are able to change their color like a Chameleon. Instead of building webs, they hide themselves in plain sight and wait for their prey to land on a flower or plant stalk to feed. This fly's-eye view shows the spider's typical pose; the front legs will snap forward if prey lands in front of it, or slowly close around an insect that has landed elswhere on the flower and come within range of this patient predator.
