Notes: Independence is one of the best-preserved, most easily accessible ghost towns in Colorado. An historic preservation group collects donations from visitors to keep what remains of this high country ruin in reasonably good maintenance. A side trip from Aspen during the Summer is well worth the effort it takes to drive the narrow, winding highway that leads past the town.
