Rocky Mountain Cactus Garden

Location:

Fall River Road, Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado

Notes: One patch of dirt on a rockface at 8000' feet elevation is all this Mountain Ball Cactus and Longleaf Stonecrop need to grow, testimony to the hardiness of Cacti and Succulents. The Mountain Ball Cactus is one of the earliest-flowering plants in the park. Stonecrop even grows above treeline, hiding from the ravaging winter winds protected by a rock or other tundra plant.
